Phil has a wealth of experience in the tourism industry both in Aotearoa and the United Kingdom and joins us after a stint as Head of Visitor Experience at Auckland Zoo.
He brings a vision and passion for the All Blacks Experience and will drive our vision and promise of delivering a world-class experience in the heart of Auckland.
In preparation for the role, we asked Phil to answer a few questions about his drivers in taking on this new and challenging role.
What are you personally most excited about within the Experience?
There really are too many options to choose from! It’s full on excitement and challenge from the moment you enter the Experience. Facing the four-metre-high haka was completely mind-blowing, hearing first-hand from some legends of the game gave me insights I’d never heard before – and trying out by rugby skills against All Blacks and Black Ferns was so much fun!
How do you feel a personal connection to the Experience?
Everyone in New Zealand is touched by rugby in some way. I was built to play as a prop in my younger years, a flanker during high school and now I am an active spectator. I love the game. Whether you are the ultimate fan or have little knowledge of the game, the All Blacks Experience will inspire and excite you. It’s that connection that I am so thrilled to be sharing with all our future visitors.
With less than 2 months until launch what will be your focus during the coming months?
We are building an incredible team that includes our guides and our retail and support staff. They team will be on board soon and my priority will be on making sure everyone understands the importance of manaakitanga (welcome) and community. We want every single visitor to the All Blacks Experience to walk away having felt a sense of awe and a deeper connection to their country.
